Get to know your YMCA.
The Lafayette Family YMCA has a rich history that led to its place as a community resource for health, education, and youth development.
Our work to grow and improve programs and opportunities in the Greater Lafayette area is rooted in the dedication of our exceptional community members, past and present.
Our History
While the YMCA organization was founded in 1844, the Lafayette Y opened in 1889. Purdue University’s Dr. Stanley Coulter took the lead as the first president of the local YMCA, creating a strong foundation for the Y to guide the community.
Over the years, as the local YMCA developed, it strengthened its goal of providing opportunities for constructive youth development and expanded to include the wellness and social responsibility we know today.
Now, we welcome all ages and families by offering a variety of programs through the YMCA and our community partners. We'd love for you to be a part of our story as we continue to help our community move forward!
